DMb Podcast 011 : Inertia – Old School Mix Vol. 1
Long time Phoenix resident Inertia is constantly bridging the gap between human and machine, laying down syncopated atmospheres of computer generated music without sacrificing the heart and soul that people long for on the dance floor. For nearly 2 decades Inertia has been at the forefront of electronic music, both as a DJ and Producer. As a Producer, his tracks have found their way into the hearts and playlists of DJ’s such as Danny Howells, Deepdish, Paul Van Dyk, Sasha, and John Digweed. In fact, his co-produced track “Time” by The Dream Traveler, was featured as the opening (and only US Produced track) on the legendary “Tranceport” CD by Paul Oakenfold. A typical night with Inertia behind the decks might include a mishmash of electronic styles. Whether it’s uplifting or dark and brooding, he is going to find the sweet spot in the audience, and ensure they leave with sweat soaked clothes and smiles on their faces. Inertia’s mix for the final round in the NGDJ competition can be listened to and voted on at the Let’s Mix Website where you can also check out mixes by the other finalists in the NGDJ competition. Enjoy!

DMb Podcast 007 : Human Life – L.A. Winter 2010
Human Life are made up of veteran electronic music producers and musicians Joshua Collins (with more than 100 vinyl releases on labels including Urbantorque and NRK), Matt Wasley (a producer of solo work for the likes of Bedrock, Nettwerk and of several rock bands) and Rachael Starr (whose chart topping singles have been released on high profile labels such as Ultra, Azuli and BMI) and cut a fine life in cool, catchy, potent electro with pop vocals and strong song writing. Their sound combines the best of the underground and overground. As well as having a great live show, the group play a mean DJ set to boot. These sets show off their range of influences, from slow disco grooves to aggressive, thumping house music, electro coolness and all in between. Matt explains “when we DJ we try to share a little bit of what Los Angeles sounds like to us”. This mix is their sonic representation of the life and climate in Los Angeles during the winter months – from the cool early mornings to the warm, sunshine-filled afternoons, to the cold desert air filled nights. Mashing up classy nu disco, the most exciting new electro producers around, retro and upfront house music, filthy bassline and dubstep. Keep an eye peeled for their debut single “In It Together”, due out in May 2010. Enjoy. Mix Info & Tracklisting 01. Turzi – New Beat In Buenos Aires (Sebastien Tellier & Romain Turzi Remix)

DMb Podcast 003 : MyKill – Another Killing on the Dancefloor
Before we get to the nitty gritty of this week’s podcast we sat down with San Francisco’s DJ MyKill and asked him a few questions about DJing and the mix he gave us. Can you tell our readers a little about this mix and how it came about? When putting out a mix CD I try and showcase a certain sound or group of producers that share the same sonic and stylistic qualities. This mix is really rooted in what several UK producers have been releasing under the Fidget House, Dubstep, Electro, UK Bassline banner. Guys like Joshua Harvey (Herve, Machine Don’t Care) Jack Beats, Jesse Rose, Hijack, and Sinden. Also showcasing US artists like Nadastrom and AC Slater that share this sound. This is the main genre I’ve been playing for my more “rave” styled events. I enjoy the energy and the nostalgic hardcore breakbeat palate they use. Where have you been playing lately? Any notable gigs recently? I’ve had the opportunity to play at many venues in and around the Bay Area. One of those venues was the world famous Ruby Skye club in San Francisco that is a host to many of the today’s top touring DJs. I’m also currently doing a residency in Anchorage, Alaska every 3 months along with various out of town dates. I recently signed with SF label Solid Bump Records and will have my first 2 tracks released in early 2010 on the Pleasure and Pressure Vol 2 compilation. I’ll also be offering a free track “Flashback” for download. Those interested in hearing that can search for the video on youtube. This will be followed by an EP of more original work later next year. Are you currently DJing with vinyl or have you made the switch to digital? What would you say the advantages of that medium are? I started with vinyl almost 13 years ago and I’m thankful I was able to experience that era of DJing. I went digital several years back and I’m currently working on Serato Scratch Live with turn tables. The fact that I can bring my entire record collection on a single laptop is the best advantage. Any other notable news you want to share with our readers? Keep your eyes open for new mixes, remixes, collaborations, and original tunes from me in 2010. Be sure to subscribe to our podcast via RSS Feed or in iTunes. Mix Info & Tracklisting 01. Jack Beats – UFO (K Hole Riddim) For more on MyKill: Categories: Frontpage
